“warm, funny, & off the cuff in all the right ways. “

Adele Cliff presents a show in a yurt that embodies all the best things about the fringe. Firstly, that its in a yurt. Secondly, that it feels warm, funny and off the cuff in all the right ways.
There were hiccups. Checkov’s HDMI cable gave early warning signs of it’s later inclusion, as the screen flickered then disconnected. The tech came to the rescue by valiantly holding the laptop to save the visual cues. Will Davies, unshakable sidekick to the show’s namesake, ends up donning the laptop eventually.
The day’s news, ultimately provided by heatwaves and Andy Burnam, are the source material for a series of well-written puns. Katie Prichards leaps into action for a couple of brilliant topical musical numbers that pick up the energy in the few moments the room falls flat.
The show has a brilliant cobbled-together feel, HIGNFY meets Shooting Stars. But without quite reaching the slick writing of the former or the absurd chaos of the latter. Lofty comparisons, yes, but it does speak to the way in which this show is still finding its feet.
